The Long Beach Housing Authority conducts several types of inspections to ensure units meet housing quality standards (HQS) as required by HUD regulations:
- Initial Inspections: The first inspection of the unit before a lease can be signed and the participant can move in.
- Biennial Inspections: Inspections conducted every 24 months to ensure ongoing compliance with housing quality standards.
- Annual Inspections: Inspections conducted at least once every 364 days to ensure the unit remains compliant with housing quality standards.
- Special Inspections: Inspections conducted when the Housing Authority is informed by the participant, landlord, or a third party about a problem or complaint with the leased unit, which may require corrective action.
- Quality Control Inspections: Supervisory re-inspections to ensure the quality and accuracy of the initial inspections and that the unit meets all HUD requirements.
These inspections help maintain safe, decent, and sanitary housing for all program participants.
