Families can qualify for an Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) through referrals from designated community agencies that assist those experiencing homelessness or impacted by domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking. These agencies identify eligible families and refer them to the housing authority for voucher issuance.
Once referred, these agencies provide continued support to the families throughout the leasing process. This assistance includes helping families navigate the voucher application process, finding suitable rental units, handling security deposits and moving costs, and coordinating interactions with landlords. They also offer guidance on maintaining the rental unit and adhering to lease terms. This tailored support ensures that families not only secure housing but also sustain their tenancies effectively.
Important Note: The Emergency Housing Voucher Program is no longer issuing new vouchers as all available vouchers have been fully utilized. For current participants, support services will continue as planned.
